 LESSONS

“Jacob unlocked my voice's potential through his lessons. We worked on breath support and sustainment to enhance my sound, strategically tackling each vowel and consonant, and he gave me so many tips for expanding the upper end of my range – as a low alto, it was amazing to see how high I could go!”

– Anu P.

Jacob has been a wonderful teacher for [our daughter]. He has given her confidence and the tools she needs to improve. My husband and I noticed a dramatic difference in her singing by the second lesson.”

“Jacob is a gifted teacher. While my voice was good before, Jacob's teaching made it superb. His insights on the anatomy of singing and sensitive corrections helped me shape my voice into a strong but nuanced instrument. His teaching style is good-humored and kind, never judgmental.”

– Matt G.

“I started studying with Jacob to improve my singing and contribution to the choir at Trinity Church Boston. I loved our work together! He made me feel much more confident in my singing and helped me actually like my own sound. We did a lot of work on basics, of course (breathing, vowel shape, etc). But, my favorite thing that Jacob helped me achieve was a really resonant and present tone for that head/chest mix - so important for the alto part of the choral pieces that frequent our repertoire. In fact - my head/chest mix is one of the things I like best about my voice now.”

– Mary R.

“Jacob is an all-around incredible voice teacher. He’s patient, prepared, and able to translate music and voice theory into accessible language for the novice (which was my case). As a working professional artist, he brought real-time experience into the lessons, and then enjoyed and learned so much from watching him maintain his craft while also teaching and coaching. It’s worth mentioning that Jacob is kind and funny. I highly recommend working with Jacob as a teacher and/or coach. My time spent with him was definitely worth the investment.”

– Reggie H.

“Jacob is an excellent teacher. He opened my eyes to my ingrained bad habits, like tension, and we did a lot of helpful exercises to help remedy that. He's a very flexible teacher and open to suggestion; I wanted to sing more confidently in duets and he made that a part of our lessons. But for the lessons where I wasn't sure what I wanted, Jacob provided challenging exercises for me to attempt. I still use the valuable exercises that he taught me.”

“I always wanted to be able to sing, but I was the kid was asked not to participate in chorus because I couldn’t carry a tune. Jacob was a fabulous teacher for me – he taught me how to breathe and how to focus on tone and pitch. And it was fun. He is knowledgeable, thoughtful and patient. I’d recommend him as a teacher to anyone, no matter where they might be in their singing development.”

– Emily S.

“Unlike voice teachers who speak in abstract terms, Jacob is attentive to details of the mechanics of singing and frames these details in a way that is easy to understand and immediately apply. Not to mention, he is encouraging and a pleasure to work with; I looked forward to his lessons and they always brightened my day!”

– Mario D.

“Thanks so much for getting me this far, Jacob. Your patience, understanding, and excellence as a teacher has really contributed to my growth.”

– James L.

Jacob is sensitive, encouraging, and caring – an imperative when working with nervous singers like me – and also tremendously skilled. His teaching style is both professional and kind. I highly, HIGHLY recommend him.
